Description
Cardiovascular (heart) disease comprises coronary heart disease,
cerebrovascular accident (stroke) and vascular disease. Cardiovascular disease accounts
for 46% all deaths in the Australian community, and claiming one life every 10 minutes.
The mortality rate for males is higher than for females, partly due to biological reasons,
but partly due to risk factors such as tobacco smoking, physical inactivity and poor
dietary habits. Associated risk factors include high blood pressure and high blood
cholesterol. |
