Description
Disruption to normal response to aural stimuli. Can be result of damage to hearing organs (ear, auditory nerves) from trauma, infection, or exposure to excessive noise levels. Not all hearing loss produces total deafness. Age-related changes to hearing are common, and include progressive loss of responsivity to high frequency sounds. 1 in 10 Australians suffer from some form of hearing impairment. Over the age of 65, this rises to 1 in 3.
