Description
First Aid is the skilled application of accepted principles of treatment in the event of an accident, prior to getting further medical support if necessary. First Aid training is available in all State and Territories.  Enquire  through your ambulance service.

There are three basic principles to First Aid.
  • Ensure safety - check that there is no further danger to the person/s or those giving assistance.
  • Check the ABC - (Airway, Breathing and Circulation) of injured persons and commence resuscitation if necessary.
  • Act quickly and methodically, giving priority to the most urgent conditions.

Contact emergency assistance if required - the national emergency telephone number is 000.  Give clear information to the operator about the exact location of the person/s and the nature of injury.

If others are available, delegate them to assist you in preventing further injury (eg warning other people or traffic coming on the scene), providing first aid, and contacting emergency services.
