Description
As well as anorexia and bulimia nervosa, eating disorders
can also include over-eating without weight loss. When the persons weight is more
than 15% over their ideal weight given their height and overall body build, they are said
to be obese. Chronic obesity can increase the likelihood of cardiovascular
disease and diabetes, hypertension, gall bladder disease, and some types of cancer. Other
health effects associated with obesity are arthritis and degenerative joint disease. There
are some genetic factors which contribute to obesity, but much is due to over-consumption
of inappropriate food. |
