Description
Tissue damage that has occurred to the brain. If the damage occurs any time after
birth, it is referred to as Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). Depending on the
location and extent of the damage, injury to the brain may result in impairment to
mobility, speech and cognitive function. The range of handicaps may be frustrating:
trouble with learning and memory, volition, mood changes (including anger and depression),
and disorientation. About 3,000 Australians each year experience ABI, and another 6,000
per year will acquire a mild brain injury. |
