About This Site

Description
A collection of relatively common yet under-recognised clinically-defined conditions, in which significant and disruptive anxiety affects personal, social and occupational functioning. The disorders all have physical and psychological symptoms which usually accompany contact with anxiety-producing events, situations or places. There are probably many factors underlying the development of these disorders – biological, behavioural, environmental and personality factors have all been identified. Untreated anxiety disorders are associated with very significant disability, including unemployment, substance use problems and depression. In Australia, recent ABS figures indicate 12.1% females and 7.1% males over 18 years of age have anxiety disorders.
