Description
A progressive and irreversible deterioration in cognitive function, typically
beginning in late adulthood with slight defects in memory and behaviour. As it progresses,
characteristic confusion, restlessness, agnosia, speech disturbances, and inability to
carry out purposeful movements are seen. Overactivity, restlessness, refusing food, and
losing control over bowels and bladder can also occur. Affects about 140,000 Australians,
and 5-10% of all Australians over 65 show some signs of Alzheimer's Disease. |
